The Weather of Life

by | Aug 27, 2021 | Self-Help

One of the most complex forces of nature is weather. We humans have virtually no control over the weather. We are subjected to it and we must deal with its impact on our lives. On sunny days, we wear hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses to protect ourselves from the sun. On rainy days, we wear jackets and boots to keep ourselves dry. It is our responsibility to adapt to the climate and its behavior. This is very similar to how we may get to handle life sometimes.

Life has its own climate. Sometimes, the weather of our lives is bright, warm, and sunny. We must make the most of times like this and enjoy the weather. This is because, just like a gorgeous day, the “sunny days” of our lives do not last forever. The sun sets, clouds roll in, rain falls, and the wind blows.

Just as the sun doesn’t always shine, the rain doesn’t always fall.

When the weather of our lives is harsh, we must exercise the same measures as when the weather outside is crummy. When it rains, we protect ourselves, seek shelter, and ride out the storm knowing that brighter days are ahead. Just as the sun doesn’t always shine, the rain doesn’t always fall. Sometimes a storm causes lasting damage. We must remain strong, do our best to survive, and work (sometimes very hard) to clean up the mess.

This metaphor can be applied to nearly all aspects of life. This proverbial weather can effect elements of our lives as they relate to family, friends, relationships, work, health, and more. It won’t always be easy. Sometimes the rain will cause even the strongest dams to flood. But the rain will stop, the floods will dry, and the dams will be fixed. The sun will always come out tomorrow.

Preparing for the Storms Ahead

Facing difficult challenges in life requires a few things. First, one must express gratitude for the weather and the beautiful things it brings. Sunshine, warm temperatures, and vibrant colors are not to be taken for granted. Secondly, one must prepare for the storms before they come. A strong shelter, sturdy boots, and a warm jacket will make the storm easier to bear. Lastly, it is crucial to maintain a positive attitude during turbulent times. By understanding that the rain will cease, the clouds will pass, and the wind will settle, one can foster internal resilience to help outlast even the mightiest of storms.

Think about a few things in your life right now that you are grateful for. Show appreciation for these things, because they may not be there forever. Consider different ways that you could prepare yourself for difficult times. Take care of your body, mind, and spirit through nutrition, exercise, meditation, rest, and learning. Finally, when you do encounter unpleasant moments in life, don’t forget that no matter how hard things may be, they will pass eventually.
